Winter tourism in Wayanad slows down

KALPETTA:  The tourism sector in Wayanad was all set to tap the charms of the misty hills and rich meadows in the district this winter season. But the demonetisation drive has thwarted the dreams of home stay/resort industry here.

The major players in the field said the tourism sector has witnessed a 20 per cent dip in business after the demonetisation, reports The New Indian Express.

“The flow of tourists from other states has come down by 20 per cent because they cancelled trips due to cash crunch. Most of the resorts here have debit/credit card facilities.

But the tourists cancel trips as they are unable to meet other requirements like shopping and transportation,” said Vythiri Village Resort chairman N K Mohammed.
