Windmill at Kochi reinstalled

The Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) has remounted the controversial windmill at Marine Drive which had fallen off within hours of its first installation. The windmill was re-installed on Saturday with minor corrections in its designing.

The windmill project was part of GCDA’s plan to light up nearly 100 lights glowing on the Marine Drive. The project, estimated at a cost of Rs 3.9 lakh, had turned out to be a massive embarrassment to GCDA after the project disastrously failed to take off on day one itself.

The windmill was set up by United Electricals, a Kollam based Public Limited Company under the state government. “The windmill power will be used to light up the Marine Drive walkway between 7 pm and 11 pm. With a capacity to generate 10 KW and storage capacity of 16 hours, the windmill will be a practical answer to our energy needs”, said GCDA chairman N Venugopal.
