Walking trails in Corbett shut down

Lacklustre response from tourists has prompted authorities to close down two walking trails in the Dhela zone – eco-tourism zone at the Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR) – within four months of its launch.

Two trails of 2.5 km each were earmarked for tourists where they could walk and enjoy the bounty of nature.

However, with visitors apprehensive to walk down the trails due to the threat of wild animals, the authorities decided to close them down, reports Times of India.

Even as the CTR authorities had recently announced about earning a record revenue and registering increased tourist footfall in the financial year 2014-15 at the Dhela zone, visitors kept away from the walking trails.

On less people opting for the walking trail, Saket Badola, deputy director, CTR, said, “Tourists were suggested to use the walking trail but they did not show much enthusiasm. Also, to ensure their safety from wild animals, we decided to close them down.”
