DELHI
With Prime Minister making the holy city of Varanasi his seat in the elections, the small city has been in the spotlight of late. The city also has a rich tradition of art and culture, specially when it comes to its weavers. For centuries, a Banarsi saree has remained on the most-wanted list for Indian brides. It represents the finest of Indian arts that has passed on from generation to generation.
Sadly, now with modern technology, many weavers have found themselves out of work and the art is at the risk of dying. But with the Taj Foundation stepping in, there is some hope. Watch the weavers weaving magic and learn about the art that takes many years to learn and yet many more years to master.
