Varanasi gets Rs 20 cr for tourism projects

DELHI

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency Varanasi is soon set to get Rs 20 crore by the union tourism ministry for various projects including  a sound and light show, a Buddha theme park in Sarnath and conservation of Gurudham and Markandey Mahadev temples.

The proposal was cleared by the ministry’s central sanctioning and monitoring committee (CSMC) last week. Varanasi is also one of the cities that comes under the ministry’s PRASAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spirituality Augmentation Drive) scheme.

The projects are set to be implemented over the next 12-18 months. Since Varanasi has become Modi’s constituency, it has seen a number of projects being infused with a new vigor. There are also plans to develop the Sarangnath pond at Sarnath.
