UP’s intra state airline to begin operations by end 2014

LUCKNOW

People in Uttar Pradesh will be able to fly between Lucknow, Agra, Varanasi and Allahabad from next month. The state government would sign a MoU with private airlines for intra state air services on October 20, reports Times of India.

After this, the private companies will announce an official date for operation of flights between the cities. It is expected that the services would start by the first week of November. The decision has been taken to boost tourism in the state.

In the first phase Lucknow-Allahabad, Lucknow-Agra and Lucknow-Varanasi will be connected through air services. The company will have to give 4% VAT on the fuel. The tax exemption will be given to only those companies which will operate within the state.

The 18 seater aircraft will have twin engines. The state will pay for 30% of the seat in case the aircraft flies with less occupancy. The tourism department is also examining the possibilities of operating flights between different states as well.
