U’khand seeks Rs 8,000 cr rehab package

Hundreds of villages severely damaged by the Uttarakhand cloudburst and floods need a Rs 8,000 crore rehabilitation plan to make them habitable, chief minister Vijay Bahuguna told a Cabinet committee on Wednesday, July 31.

The CM presented an 18-point plan that includes restoration of Kedarnath Valley and its famous temple with the help of Archeological Survey of India (ASI), while Dwarka shankaracharya Swaroopanand is being consulted on rituals and purification rites.

Bahuguna was assured of the centre’s help with finance minister P Chidambaram saying procedures will be not prove to be a hurdle in the state government’s quest to rebuild areas that have been devastated by the floods.
