Post Jaya’s arrest, tourist arrival dips at Nilgiris

UDHAGAMANDALAM

Normality is yet to be restored in many parts of the Nilgiris district, where protests broke out on Saturday after the conviction of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

The World Tourism Day, normally celebrated on September 27, was put off. Though Udhagamandalam and its surroundings looked normal on Sunday as commercial establishments worked and vehicles operated, most of the shops remained closed at Coonoor and Gudalur, and only a few vehicles were plying.

As inter-State bus services continued to be affected, fewer tourists arrived from Karnataka. This caused concern among those in the hospitality and travel sectors.
