‘Too many tourists in Calangute’

The government needs to divert tourists to other beaches and areas in Goa as most tourists seem to only head for Calangute, resulting in an enormous burden on the coastal village’s infrastructure.

The statement was made by former Calangute sarpanch Laxman Parab along with his wife Geeta Parab, also a former sarpanch and present panch.

“Some of the roads have been widened in the last two years, but even that won’t be enough if things go on like this. People find it difficult to walk on some of the roads because of the constant traffic as there are no footpaths. On long holiday weekends, there are constant traffic jams. The government needs to hold events like music festivals in other places like Arambol or Mandrem, or Colva or Palolem so that the tourists go there during these long weekends,” says Parab.
