Thomas Cook India eyes strong growth potential in North India

DELHI: Thomas Cook, an integrated travel and travel related financial services company has opened four new outlets in Delhi NCR and Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

The company stated this expansion augments Thomas Cook India’s distribution and reach in North India to 42 consumer access centers: 13 owned branches and 29 Gold Circle Partner (franchise) outlets, reports The Economic Times.

Thomas Cook stated its internal data has revealed high demand from India’s north markets, with growth of 25% for January- August 2017 against the same period of the previous year. The year has seen significant uptake for favorites like USA & Canada, UK, France, Switzerland and Asia’s Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia; Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Destinations like Hungary, Czech Republic, Croatia, Romania, Japan and Bali, and exotic locales like Georgia and Azerbaijan are strong emerging destinations for the company.

Family vacations have topped the holiday segment with a 40% growth, followed by a surge in cruise holidays with a growth of over 35% this year.

Cruise holidays for Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau and Dubai have powered the growth from North this year with the key cruise lines being Star Cruises, Costa Cruises and Royal Caribbean.

High demand was observed for Thomas Cook’s GIT/ group escorted tours and for its ad-hoc groups – comprising extended families, group of friends and millennials/ young working professionals. The millennial segment resulted in strong growth for destinations such as Bali, Maldives, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Malaysia. The company said another growth segment was Thomas Cook’s Travel Quest- The company’s educational/ study tours which operated student groups to Europe (UK, Germany, Netherlands and the Czech Republic) USA, and Asia’s Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong, etc.
