The official website of Kerala Tourism, keralatourism.org, has registered a surge in number of visitors after it started an online quiz programme anchored by Union minister of state for human resource development, Shashi Tharoor. It has been found that a visitor spends an average of five minutes now on the site compared to the previous three minutes and the daily traffic has doubled.
The site comes out with a question, based on a picture related to tourism, every day and as many as 4,000 people from across the world participate in the competition. Roughly half of them give the correct answer and the winner for the top daily prize – a smartphone – is selected through lots. There are also half-a-dozen consolation prizes ranging from T-shirts, DVDs to traditional handicraft.
