Tamil Nadu tourism plans makeover to woo tourists

Tamil Nadu tourism is planning to begin all over again. After a period of inaction, the department has decided to revive a few of its tourist-friendly schemes following a recent ministers’ conference in Delhi.

The schemes will have to involve improved safety for tourists, cleanliness of tourist spots, bed and breakfast initiatives involving local communities, skill development to create manpower for hospitality and tourism and promoting meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions (MICE) and medical tourism, the conference of tourism ministers convened by the Centre in New Delhi on August 21 decided.

Tamil Nadu had earlier launched a few initiatives such as tourism police and recruiting tourist guides from local communities in an effort to make various destinations tourist-friendly but these schemes fizzled out in the last two years.
