Music lovers should get ready to bid adieu to the electronic dance music festival – Sunburn – in its current avatar, if a communiqué from the Department of Tourism in the Goa government is anything to go by. The letter from the state-level event permission committee (SLEPC), a copy of which is with dna, says, “the SLEPC is recommending granting permission to M/s Starlight Events & Entertainment Pvt Ltd (SEEPL).”
Though no one willing to go on record, sources within this Viacom 18 subsidary confirm preparations have indeed begun to host what they are calling “the VH1 Supersonic in Goa.” The letter gives SEEPL until 5.00 pm on November 25th to submit documents for organising the festival at Candolim.
Sunburn’s inability to provide documents on time has led to SEEPL bagging the festival. Repeated attempts to speak to Suburn promoters Percept, an entertainment, media and communications conglomerate drew a blank as both Vice Chairman & Managing Director Harindra Singh, and Joint Managing Director Shailendra Singh were unreachable. Without their comment its unclear what will happen to thousands of patrons who have bought tickets worth Rs 15,500 (VIP) and Rs 9,250 (general) online for the festival to be held between December 26th-30th.
