Global hospitality player Starwood Hotels & Resorts is planning to bring its luxury brands St Regis and W Hotels to to meet the expanding demand of the Indian market. With these additions, Starwood will have have eight out of its nine brands in India.
“One St Regis and four W Hotels are currently under development,” Dilip Puri, managing director India and regional vice president, South Asia, Starwood Asia Pacific Hotels & Resorts told Financial Chronicle.
The company currently operates 38 properties under six of its nine brands with a total room count of over 8,500 keys. It has 6,000 more rooms in the pipeline with 35 hotels under development. The company believes that the Indian market will emerge as the third largest market over the next couple of years.
The group currently operates 10 luxury collection hotels, four Sheraton brand hotels, six properties under the Westin brand, seven under the brand Le Meridien, six under the Four Points by Sheraton and five under its Aloft brand of hotels. “We are well on track to achieve our target of 100 hotels operating, under development or management contracts signed by end of 2015,” he said.
The company opened four hotels in 2013 and will open another six to eight hotels this year. Starwood continues to grow with Westin in cities like Chennai as well as in key markets like Noida. It is now looking at strengthening its resort portfolio with Westin in Khandala and Bekal.
