St Regis, one of the world’s best-known luxury hotels, may soon open its first India property in Mumbai. Starwood Hotel and Resorts, which owns St Regis, is in talks to manage Phoenix Mills-owned Pallazzio Hotels and Leisure’s 390-room property atop the Palladium luxury mall in central Mumbai.
The Pallazzio Hotels and Leisure, which recently snapped ties with Shangri La Hotels and Resorts, has also been in talks with Marriott, Hyatt and Intercontinental hotel groups, the two people quoted earlier said.
St Regis, where Bloody Mary drink was born (originally as Red Snapper), is a century-old brand known for its elite clientele and high-end services like butler service and The St Regis Aficionado that offers exclusive privileges to its guests. The first St Regis, opened in 1904, was then the tallest building in New York. Its celebrity guests over the year include Russian prince Colonel Serge Obelensky, Spanish painter Salvador Daliand actor Marlene Dietrich among many others.
