Sand artists cry foul over festival

Sand artists in Puri are crying foul over selection of artists to take part in the International Sand Art Festival to be hosted by Tourism Department at Chandrabhaga beach from December 1 to 5.

The Sand Art Festival would see participation of 30 artists including five from outside countries, two from outside the State and 23 from within the State.

Puri artists alleged that Sudarshan Patnaik, who was entrusted to select the artists to take part in the event, included names of his students and did not allow others to participate. Alleging that there was no transparency in the selection process for the fest, they have sent a letter to Secretary of the Tourism Department demanding a probe into it. Among the sand artists who have signed the letter are Nikunja Kishore Naik, Dasarathi Mahapatra, Hrushikesh Nayak and Brajabandhu Naik.
