Quicker Kailash Mansarovar route via Kinnaur to be opened

SHIMLA

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi considering an additional route for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra with Chinese President Xi Jinping, residents of Himachal Pradesh, particularly people from remote Kinnaur, have much to look forward to, because Kinnaur offers the safest route to reach Mansarovar lake. The lake is only 91 kilometers from the border pass of Shipkila in Kinnaur and is accessible by road.

Former chief minister and opposition leader Prem Kumar Dhumal said now that the Prime Minister has broached the subject with the Chinese President, there is hope of the yatra through Kinnaur being started soon. “At present, the distance between New Delhi and Kailash-Mansarovar via Uttrakhand is 865 km. The route passes through arduous, hilly terrain and unpredictable climatic regions. Pilgrims take a long time to reach the holy lake,” he said.

Dhumal said the Kinnaur route would provide easy and safe access to the holy lake, besides giving a boost to economic activity in the region. He said the Kailash-Mansarovar pilgrimage could be organized in a better way by making it less time consuming and more convenient.
