Entry to the recently inaugurated riverfront gardens will not be free. Much on the lines of the Kankaria lakefront, the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Coproration Limited (SRFDCL) will charge a fee from visitors.
The standing committee of the civic body will charge a fee of Re 1 from students, while children between the ages of one and five along with senior citizens and freedom fighters will be charged Rs 5 per head. Those above 12-years-old will be charged Rs 10 per head.
Opposition leader Baddrudin Sheikh says, “Till today SRFDCL spent Rs 44 crore on publicity of the riverfront and promised people that there will be no access charge. But here at the very first instance, the ruling BJP has shown its true colours. The riverfront is not inclusive. What is appaling is that the issue of fees was never brought before the riverfront board.”
