Ramtek, Pench may get seaplane link to Mumbai

NAGPUR

The seaplane service that started between Mumbai and Lonavla may soon touch Vidarbha as well. If all goes to plan, the service may start at the end of this year or early next year. The trial run will be held soon between Mumbai and Navegaon Khairi dam that borders Mansinghdeo and Pench wildlife sanctuaries in Ramtek tehsil. It is a part of the plan to connect Mumbai with several dams in state that have tourism potential.

Ramtek MLA Ashish Jaiswal told TOI the service would be run by Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) through its operator Maritime Energy Heli Air Services (Mehair). “Even though it is called a seaplane, it is an amphibious aircraft that can land on runways as well as water. Navegaon Khairi has been chosen because it is surrounded by forests and MTDC expects good tourist traffic. The one way fare is expected to be about Rs3,000, so the tourist should get value for money. The aircraft will take off from Juhu airport,” he said.
