Port trust firms up plans for floating hotel

MUMBAI

The Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) has taken the first step towards turning the city’s eastern coastline into a recreation spot for Mumbaikars by deciding to allow private parties to set up a floating hotel and a restaurant in the area under its possession.

A senior official said, “There is a demand for opening up this part of the waterfront for the leisure, entertainment and hospitality business. Hence, we have decided to invite expression of interest for a floating hotel and a restaurant. The plan, if successful, will give a boost to luxury and leisure tourism.”

The MbPT has earmarked the C-2 anchorage area for a floating hotel. The landing point will be Ferry Wharf, from where guests and material could be taken on to the hotel and brought back.
