Pi’s land knocks at Chiru’s door

DELHI

The Union Tourism Ministry marketed Puducherry as a holiday hot spot to foreigners  following the release of Oscar-winning film Life of Pi. The number of foreign tourists comprised less than 10 per cent of all tourists travelling to the union territory. But, some key tourism projects are held up as the sanctioned funds have not been released.

Newly-appointed Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Virendra Kataria on Friday met Union Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi, asking him to expedite the release of financial assistance to various tourism infrastructure projects in the union territory.

Since the Life of Pi put Puducherry on the international tourism circuit, the L-G and Chiranjeevi discussed more ways to facilitate  projects that promote tourism in Puducherry.
