Pilgrim facilities lie unused

Majority of tourist amenities built in the vicinity of seven popular temples in SPSR Nellore district spending Rs 23.22 crores under Government of India’s Heritage Tourism Circuit lying unused since more than a year.

Thanks to the laxity of the endowment department, which is supposed to manage the facilities, under the pretext of lack of staff, the department has been keeping the most sought after tourist amenities under lock and key.

The temples covered under Heritage Circuit include Penusila Narasimha Swamy temple, Penchalakona, Alagu Mallar Krishna Swamy temple, Mannarpolur near Sullurpeta, Sri Vedagiri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple, Narasimhakonda, Sri Kamakshi Thayee temple at Jonnawada, Sri Somalingeswara Swamy temple, Somasila, Irukalala Parameswari temple and Sri Talpagiri Ranganadha Swamy temple in Nellore.

Suite rooms, tourist arrival/information centres, auditoriums, pilgrim amenities centres, bathing ghats, water tanks, dressing rooms, bathrooms and toilets, parks and relaxation huts have been constructed close to these temples for the benefit of the pilgrims thronging the shrines.
