Philippines to launch Diwali packages

AHMEDABAD
The Philippines Tourism is planning to launch special packages to attract Indian tourists during the Diwali vacations, a senior official said on Thursday.

Verna C. Buensuceso, Director, Market Development Group, Philippines Tourism, said the number of tourists from India to her country has more than doubled to 46,000 in six years. The Philippines received 4.4 million tourists from across the world last year but India was not among the top 10 of those countries.

Manila is trying to woo Indian tourists through its dried mango varieties and the year-long availability of this fruit there. Besides, it is also offering 14-day visa-free visit to Indian tourists if they acquire visas from certain other countries such as the US and Japan.

To boost tourism, an airline of The Philippines is looking for slots to launch flights in 2014 or 2015 to connect with India, she added.
