People throng Gulmarg on New Year eve

New Year celebrations kicked-off at Gulmarg Thursday evening with thousands of tourists from mainland India and abroad thronging the snow-clad hill resort.

Gulmarg witnessed heavy snowfall last week, which has encouraged the people to visit the place on New Year eve, reports Daily Kashmir.

“All hotels are running full and many tourists were seen pleading officials to let them stay in government-owned huts,” an official of the Tourism department said.

Pertinently, some private entertainment companies and some hotels too have made special arrangements for music and cultural programs for the occasion.

“We have arranged a cultural program for the tourists who are staying in our hotel,” said manager of a hotel.

Besides foreigners, many locals have also thronged the place to celebrate the New Year.

“I and my friends reached here at noon today and we are expecting a huge party tonight. It’s a different feeling to celebrate it here, though I have celebrated it in many states in the past,” said a local from Srinagar’s downtown area.
