150 flyers stranded as SpiceJet cancels flight

A Chennai bound flight was cancelled an hour before scheduled departure

AHMEDABAD: More than 150 Chennai-bound fliers had an awful experience on Saturday morning after their flight was cancelled just an hour before scheduled departure on May 14.

The passengers created a ruckus at the city airport, after SpiceJet authorities cancelled flight SG-501 Ahmedabad-Chennai without any prior information, reports The Times of India. The flight was supposed to depart at 7.55am but was cancelled at 7am.

An email query sent to SpiceJet did not elicit any response. However, later in the day, the airline said on micro-blogging website Twitter that the flight had been cancelled due to technical reasons.

According to details available, passengers were already in the queue taking boarding passes, when the announcement came in. Some students who were travelling to Chennai for university admissions were the most affected. Passengers also complained of rude behaviour by SpiceJet officials, who refused to provide alternate arrangements to passengers.
