Parking operators in Calangute fleece tourists

CALANGUTE
Complaints of overcharging by pay parking operators are becoming a regular affair at Calangute and other coastal areas.

Although the tourist security force had caught the pay parking attendants last month at Calangute beach for overcharging, the racket continues to flourish, say sources. Adding to the misery of vehicle owners, people with open spaces in front of their houses and properties have started ‘pay parking’ services, and demand money from anybody parking their vehicles by the roadside in front of their properties.

Thasveer Salim, a resident of Vasco, says he recently parked his vehicle in the tourism department’s pay parking zone at Calangute and was given a receipt for 50. However, when he noticed the official board of pay parking charges, he discovered that he should have actually paid just 10 for three hours.
