No religious feasts in Rajaji, Corbett park areas

DEHRADUN

Chief minister Harish Rawat on Sunday directed the state forest department to impose a ban on religious feasts in areas that fall under national parks such as Rajaji National Park and Corbett National Park.

Addressing a meeting of top forest and senior officials, including chief secretary Shatrughana Singh, at his Beejapur residence, the chief minister said that it should be ensured that a ban on these activities in the national park areas comes into effect at the earliest, reports The Times of India.

“Holding of religious feasts such as bhandaras in the national parks is not only leading to deforestation but also disturbance and noise pollution to wildlife. Immediate ban on these activities will give a boost to the conservation of eco-tourism and reserve forests in the state and strengthen forest cover in parks and wildlife sanctuaries,” said Rawat.
