No more scenic horse rides in Mussoorie

DEHRADUN

Mussoorie’s Mall Road will not be the same anymore, with a 70 year old tradition of having leisurely horse-rides on this long stretch coming to an end.

Horse riding was recently banned on the Mall Road. Around 25 horse-owners have been provided shops on Camel road under a rehabilitation package offered by Mussoorie Nagarpalika.

Chairman of Mussoorie Nagarpalika, Manmohan Singh Malla told TOI that the step was taken as the horses were taking up a lot of space on the road, leaving little room for the commuters to walk. “Horse excreta was also making the roads dirty. Nagarpalika had been making efforts to rehabilitate the horse-owners for many years but somehow it was not working either due to lack of space to build shops or unwillingness of many of them to change their vocation. Now, after sincere pursuance of the matter by the DM, this matter is finally resolved,” he said.
