Nellore gets Rs 50 crore for tourism development

Minister of State for Tourism Mahesh Sharma announced a sum of Rs 50 crore for the development of tourism in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh (AP) over the next five years while on a visit to the Indian Institute of Travel & Tourism in Nellore recently.

The Minister also said that domestic tourism in the country has grown substantially during the last decade. Some of the recent initiatives taken by the government to boost tourism are the best examples of the government’s dedication towards tourism and culture, Sharma added.

He also said that the Central government will fund many tourism-related projects in AP and has funded many in the past. The Centre gave Rs ten lakh for organising a Flamingo Festival in Nellore district in January 2015, Sharma said. Similarly, development of Kakinada Hope Island Konaseema as a World Class Coastal and Ecotourism Circuit in AP is being supported under the new Swadesh Darshan Scheme of the Union Ministry of Tourism.

A sum of Rs 10,811 lakh has been sanctioned by the Ministry for 13 projects during the year 2014-15 to AP. Rs 1,253.4 lakh were released for these projects during 2014-15.
