Mumbai airport gets notice for overcharging

MUMBAI: The legal metrology department has issued notices to Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) and Indian Hotel & Restaurant Association (AHAR) over their members charging customers more than the printed price for packaged products, reports The Times of India.

Special IG Amitabh Gupta, controller of legal metrology, said, “We noticed that some vendors at the Mumbai airport are levying more than MRP or selling with dual MRP on the same packaged commodity. We have registered cases against Saptagiri Restaurant, Flemingo Airport Retail, Safe Bag Wrap and Devyani Airport Services.”

MIAL said it is yet to receive the notice.

AHAR president Adarsh Shetty said, “The department can only remind us of the law, not issue notice. We have given instructions to our members to sell products at MRP over the counter. However, when the item is served inside the restaurant, we incur costs on manpower, taxes and overheads so we are at liberty to charge more than MRP.” He said the notice was yet to reach them
