MTPA organises workshop in Delhi to promote MICE

Realising the potential of the Indian market in the Outbound Tourism segment, last week the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) organised a workshop to showcase its travel and tourism products such as destinations, tourism activities, hotels, resorts for the MICE segment. The workshop, held in Delhi was attended by front-line employees of several travel and tourism companies based in Delhi and the National Capital Region of Delhi.

Sanjay Sondhi, CEO, OM Tourism; Vivek Anand, Country Manager – India, MPTA; Barun Gupta, Account Director, Starwood Hotels and Resorts; Gagan Sharma, Sales & Marketing – North, East India & Nepal, Air Mauritius; and Peter Rohan Malik, Country Head – Hotel Representations (Hotels & Tourism Boards), Nijhawan Group, gave presentations on their products at the workshop, reports Travel Biz Monitor.

Wedding Tourism is a fast growing segment. The country hosts under water weddings, beach weddings and catamaran weddings and is now also organising Indian weddings. Besides, the country is also equipped with a wide range of adventure activities including zipline tours (largest in the world), sky diving, under water adventures, mountaineering, so the destination is best for combining adventure activities with MICE packages. Mauritius is witnessing a 25 per cent year-on-year growth in the MICE segment from India. MTPA also provides various incentives for MICE organisers from India, informed Anand. Mauritius offers a hybrid mix of continental and Indian cuisines and the country has a handful of Indian restaurants, said Anand.
