MTDC submits MoU to speed up restorations

PUNE

The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) recently sent a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to the Union government to expedite restoration of monuments in the state and ease the process of introducing new amenities.

If the MoU is sanctioned, permission to restore and introduce amenities for monuments in the state will be granted within 50-90 days. Decentralization of power to grant restoration permissions to Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) regional director in the state and a heritage fund to maintain amenities at sites have also been proposed in the MoU, reports Times of India.

Valsa R Nair, secretary of tourism and cultural affairs department, Maharashtra, recently handed over the final draft of the MoU to the Union government for approval. MTDC officials told TOI that the MOU was lauded by the ministry of culture. “The ministry hinted at implementing the MoU across India,” said an MTDC official.
