It’s summer & Indians want a break: Study

Its summer vacation time and Indian tourists are surely making holiday plans. Travel portal Expedia is reporting a 43% rise in the number of bookings and queries.

While overall hill stations have emerged as the favourite destination, couples and DINKs (dual income, no kids) are looking at making five day long weekends and opting for South East Asia (SEA) destinations. Expedia also found 55% of holidayers opting for offbeat destinations as compared to 30% last year with less explored spots in SEA becoming a hit.

Those heading out of country are choosing niche destinations in Thailand like Koh Samui, Krabi, Chaing Mai and Phuket, Hua Hin, Phi-Phi Islands, Langkawi, Penang Island, Malacca and Johor Bahru in Malaysia; Bali, Banda Islands, Yogyakarta, Surabaya in Indonesia and Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam; Yamanouchi, Kyoto, Chiyoda, Honshu Island in Japan. Other international sestinations like Singapore, London, and Hong Kong too are seeing incremental business of 25% for family and DINKS segment

Domestic travel Trends indicate that places like Shimla, Nainital, Lonavala, Coorge Kathmandu, Wayanad, Munnar and Andaman and Nicobar are picking up for this summer. Water related adventure sport like Rafting, Kayaking, Jet Skiing, Surfing, Scuba Diving and Snorkeling will also be an attraction for young travelers seeking adventure.

Indian are also exploring far and wide. “Since Europe has always been the favorite travel hub for Indians, destinations like Japan, South Korea, Turkey and Greece which were earlier not chosen in large numbers too are now being explored widely,” said Manmeet Ahluwalia, Marketing Head Expedia India adding that travellers would do well to check out Expedia site for special offers that it is running now.
