Marriott no 1 on Fortune’s ‘most admired companies’ list

Hotel group Marriott International was named one of the World’s Most Admired Companies by Fortune magazine for 16th consecutive year. The 2016 rankings listed Marriott as #29, up from #37 last year.  Marriott also took the top rankings for the hotels, casinos and resorts category.

Marriott is based in Bethesda, Maryland, USA, with more than 4,400 properties in 87 countries and territories.  Marriott International reported revenues of more than $14 billion in fiscal year 2015. The company operates and franchises hotels and licenses vacation ownership resorts under 19 brands, including: The Ritz-Carlton, Marriott Hotels, Courtyard and Residence Inn among others.

Fortune partner, the Hay Group, narrowed the ranking from 1,400 companies from the Fortune 1,000—the 1,000 largest US companies ranked by revenue and non-US companies in ­Fortune’s Global 500 database with revenues of $10 billion or more.

Marriott ranked #1 for its industry segment in eight of Fortune’s nine key attributes of reputation: innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term investment value and global competitiveness.
