Lucknow’s tourism potential lost in poor branding

If Mayawati’s dream of dividing UP turned true, what would tourism industry in leftover Avadh Pradesh bank on? Answer to this hypothetical question would be Lucknow, as tourist magnets Agra and Varanasi will go to other states.

But UP tourism department has failed to promote the City of Nawabs despite it being a natural destination. Statistics – showing that less than 5% of tourists coming to UP travel to Lucknow – prove the point. And, over 75% tourists coming to the city are corporate clients. This means that they were not attracted by Lucknow’s rich heritage or anecdotal way of life. TOI takes a look at the reasons behind this failure.
