Locals chip in to help robbed tourist

“Your moment is waiting,” proclaims an advertisement by the state tourism. For a 35-year-old from Belgium, the moments now are of kindness and relief.

Robbed of all his belongings on board a train from Mumbai, Debelina Krupinski Steve Robert reached the state capital on August 11, armed only with his passport and a return ticket to Brussels. Besides 250, the thief had also taken away Robert’s most important survival tool-a French-English dictionary.

Of Belgium’s three official languages-Dutch, French and German, Robert speaks only French. The lack of a dictionary made communication almost impossible for him in Thiruvananthapuram.
