Liquor-hour stretch strikes a sour note

KOLKATA
A liquor-hour deadline stretch for only properties attached to star hotels has left a number of standalone nighclubs and bars fuming in the run-up to the year-end party season.

The excise commissioner has decided to extend the liquor hours at star properties till 4am. Other venues serving liquor can stay open till 2am.

“During the festive season, we will issue special license to three-star and higher category hotels that will be valid from December 15 to January 15. Subject to payment of requisite hourly fees, these establishments can remain open till 4am. Other permanent license holders can stay open till 2am, again subject to payment of additional hourly fees,” excise commissioner Smaraki Mahapatra told TOI.
