‘Lack of innovative ideas stunting tourism’

A two-day national conference on ‘Innovations in Tourism and Hospitality Sector in India’, being organised by the Dr YSR National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM), Gachibowli, began here on Friday.

Academicians from various institutes of tourism in the country are participating in the event.

State special chief secretary (tourism) Chandana Khan called for innovative ideas to promote tourism in the state. Her department was constantly researching and consulting experts on what can be done to improve the industry, she claimed. “When tourists take a break from their regular work, they seek new holidaying experiences” Khan said.

“The problem with tourism is that there is no idea about how much innovation is taking place. Small business cannot afford innovation because of economies of scale,” said Manjula Chaudary, director of Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM), New Delhi.
