Kolhapur airport gets civil aviation ministry’s approval

Member of Parliament from the city Kolhapur Dhananajay Mahadik on Saturday said the Union civil aviation ministry has given a green signal to start operations at Kolhapur airport. With this, the airport is a step away from getting functional, awaiting the approval of the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

“The airport was not in use for a long time. All it required was repair work and clearances to be sought. The proposal to conduct trial flights is now with the DGCA. Once the DGCA gives its nod, it will start functioning,” Mahadik said.

Mahadik said that Supreme Aviation, a private airline with a fleet of small capacity planes, will be starting air connectivity, for which a quality and feasibility check-up will be undertaken by DGCA officials to Kolhapur airport. The approval is important as it would clearly point out the range of planes in terms of weight and carrying capacity that can be operated from Kolhapur airport.
