Kochi to transform into City of Colours

If Kozhikode is the ‘City of Sculptures’ and Kottayam the ‘Mural City’, Kochi is planning to transform itself into the ‘City of Colours’ soon.

The Kerala Lalithakala Akademi, which had conceived and executed the Kozhikode and Kottayam projects, has mooted the proposal for the city which will see artists turning walls of all major public structures into their canvas.

Murals and paintings will adorn the old toll gate to Mattanchery and Fort Kochi, which will called the Gateway of Greater Cochin, as well as the Aroor toll gate (to be called the Cochin Gate).

“The paintings will be related to the history of Kochi. We will also have contemporary works. We have put forward the proposal and a final decision will be taken at the meeting to be convened on September 30. MLAs, MPs, representatives of Kochi Metro, corporation and sponsors will attend the meeting,” said academy chairman K A Francis.
