After the success of the winter and the paragliding festivals at Saputara, the 26th international kite festival was inaugurated in Gujarat’s only hill station on Thursday.
Around 62 kitists from across the country and other countries like Russia, France, Kazakhstan and South Africa are participating in the festival. The kitists will celebrate the festival in different cities of the state including Surat, Rajkot, Ahmedabad and Vadodara.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Kamlesh Patel, chairman, Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd ( TCGL) said, “The number of tourists in the state have increased from 60 lakh in 2007 to four crore in 2013. The state government has a special focus on Saputara and Rs 40 crore has been allocated for promoting tourism.”
