Kerala Travel Mart ends, 40000 meetings held


The eighth edition of Kerala Travel Mart concluded at Samudrika Convention Centre in Kochi on Saturday. Kerala Travel Mart Society, which organized the event, claimed that a total of 40,000 business meets were conducted during the three-day event. Of these, around 9,000 business meets were conducted with representatives from foreign nations.

“About 30,000 buyer-seller appointments had been expected for the mart, but the figures crossed 40,000,” KTM president Abraham George said. Participants at the travel mart expressed serious concern at the state government’s new excise policy. The policymakers were urged to adopt positive steps in evolving a tourism-friendly liquor policy. The tourism fraternity has pinned its hopes on the assurance given by chief minister Oommen Chandy that their concerns would be looked into.

As many as 255 stalls of various firms, 862 local buyers and 241 international buyers took part in the mart. Buyers from 41 countries including Germany, Romania and Singapore also took part in the KTM.Seminars were also organized on the Muziris heritage project, Ayurveda and other subjects. Tourism additional secretary Giri Sankar distributed awards to the best micro, medium and large exhibitors.
