BENGALURU: The Karnataka Tourism Department has joined hands with Bengaluru-based WickedRide Adventure Services to promote motorcycle and camping tourism.
As part of this project, a pilot ride on a motorcycle will be organised from Bengaluru to Hampi on December 10 and 11, reports Bangalore Mirror.
Speaking to Bangalore Mirror, principal secretary, Tourism Department, Naveen Raj Singh said, motorcycle has been a preferred means of transportation for the young and middle-aged crowd. Bengaluru, being a startup capital, has been a witness to several motorcycle enthusiasts and there are several clubs in Bengaluru and several people spending the weekend undertaking rides. Cashing in on this enthusiasm, in an attempt to promote tourism in the state through motorcycle, the department has tied up with WickedRide Adventure Services, a city-based premium motorcycle rental outfit, to launch a ride to Hampi on a pilot basis. While the bikes would be provided free of cost for this ride, the tourism department will provide fuel and food and stay will be taken care of by the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation.
The ride will see the participation of Principal Secretary to CM Atheeq, Resident Commissioner Athul Tiwari, Joint Commissioner BBMP Sarfaraz Khan and Tourism Secretary Naveen Raj Singh. To prove that motorcycle riding is not a male bastion, nine female riders will also be participating in the ride.
Vivek Anand H R, CEO, WickedRide, said Candida Louis will be leading the ride. About 25 people are expected to participate in the ride. A few riders have been selected through various contests. In the first phase of this project, they hope to target Sakleshpur, Chikkamagaluru, Gokarna and Hampi as motorcycle destinations. Currently the bookings are only though WickedRide website. Very soon, it will be integrated to the tourism department website.
