ALAPPUZHA: Karichal, which is having the record for the most number of victories -14- in Nehru Trophy Boat Race(NTBR) on the serene backwaters of the Venice of the East, lifted the coveted Nehru trophy this time on Saturday.
In a pulsating final, Karichal captained by Jameskutty Jacob of Vembanadu Boat Club, Kumarakom, defeated United Boat Club Kainakary’s Gabriel Chundan, which staged its maiden performance on Saturday, reports The Times of India.
Karichal has covered 1175 metre race course with a record time of 4.22.1 minutes, while Gabriel finished second taking 4.32.1 minutes. Nadubhagam chundan of Village Boat Club, Edathua secured third place leaving Mahadevikkad Kattil Thekkethil chundan rowed by the members of Punnamada Boat Club in fourth place. Nadubagham finished taking 4.33.7 minutes and Mahadevikad finished within 4.33.8 minutes.
Jameskutty Jacob, the captain of Karichal, said there are no words for him to explain the winning moments.”It is the hard work and complete dedication of his team members, which paved the way for their success. I dedicate this trophy for all my team members and our supporters,” said a beaming Jameskutty.
