Jat stir stops tourist traffic to Himachal Pradesh

The Jat quota stir in Haryana has affected the tourism industry in Himachal Pradesh. Several tourists cancelled their hotel and taxi reservations following the violent stir. The vehicular traffic on Chandigarh-Delhi Highway, a major connecting road to this state, was hit too. Also, over two dozen trains were cancelled owing to the stir causing further loss of tourist flow to Himachal Pradesh.

As of now, bus services by Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) buses from New Delhi to Shimla, Manali, Dharamsala and other destinations remain suspended.

“Around 125 buses ply on the same routes daily and were suspended due to agitation. We will resume services after situation is normalised,” said HRTC’s Executive Director Ram Kumar Gautam.

Travel agents from the state confirmed that  there was a mass cancellations of hotel booking in all the major tourist hill stations like Manali, Shimla and Dharamshala.
