DELHI: Buying tickets for helicopter rides could become easier with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and Pawan Hans helicopter joining hands to book tickets through the IRCTC website online. The agreement sees both sides working jointly to identify areas for cooperation and draw plans to promote ‘heli tourism’ in the country.
Pawan Hans too is a public sector undertaking of the Indian Civil Aviation Ministry. It offers regular and chartered helicopter services and joy rides and has also been working on developing ‘heli tourism’ facilities across India. Pawan Hans was founded in 1985 to provide helicopter service to oil companies. It has now grown into one of Asia’s largest helicopter companies.
“The signing of MoU with Pawan Hans will give a major push to our tourism initiatives by promoting ‘heli tourism’ in the country, an area which has enormous potential as a tourist product,” IRCTC’s Chairman and Managing Director AK Manocha told PTI.
The two sides will also also facilitate cross-selling of products and services. IRCTC has already been providing helicopter rides to tourists for an aerial view of Mumbai. “The MoU will give a cutting edge to such an effort,” Manocha said.
