IRCTC denies any ‘special favours’ to Saradha

DELHI

Days after being targeted BJP for allegedly favouring the scam-tainted Saradha Group during her tenure as railway minister, Mamata Banerjee can breathe easy after Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) denied the company was given any special favour.

In a statement, the railways PSU admitted that Saradha Tours & Travels was on its panel as one of the sales agents but insisted no “special favour or privilege” was extended to it.

The clarification follows fresh political controversy after reports said IRCTC had entered into a contract with the Saradha Group-run Saradha Tours and Travels for operating tourist services in the package tour of South India under the Bharat Teertha scheme introduced by then railway minister Mamata Banerjee in her 2010-11 budget.
