Indigo gets 40% marketshare in August

DELHI: Budget air carrier IndiGo continued to dominate the Indian skies with a marketshare of a record 39.9% in August as per reports Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) figures. This was highers by 20 percentage points than the second-biggest airline. Jet Airways. Jet came in at a distant second with a market share of 19.2%.

Air India came in third with 14.6% and SpiceJet fourth with 12.6% market share.

India’s passenger traffic grew by 23.14% in the first eight months of 2016. Domestic airlines carried 64.5 million passengers as against 52.35 million during the same period last year as per DGCA data.

For August 2016, the passenger traffic grew by 23.98% as compared to August 2015. IndiGo had the best on-time performance at 83.8% in August followed by SpiceJet and Vistara who came in at 83.1% each. Spice-Jet had the highest load factor of over 90%. Air Carnival had the highest cancellation rate of 20%.

A total of 18,353 passengers were affected as a result of flight cancellations while 44,158 passengers due to delays.
