India’s first desert trail running event on Feb 6

AHMEDABAD

‘Run the Rann’ footrace, India’s first desert trail running event, is organized by the state tourism department at Dholavira in the Greater Rann of Kutch.

State tourism minister Saurabh Patel said that more than 150 national and international athletes, including journalists and sports enthusiasts, will participate in this event.

The historic city of Dholavira is in Khadir Bet, a beautiful island in Kutch, whose mysteries and folklore are just as intriguing as its majestic ruins, reports Times of India.

‘Run the Rann’ is an ‘ultra trail footrace’ – i.e., it involves running and walking longer than the traditional marathon length of 42.195 km (26.219 miles). The first edition of the marathon had three races of 21 km, 42 km and 101 km, respectively. For the second edition, a new race — of 161 km (100 miles) — has been introduced. This race will cover the entire Khadir Bet island.
