Incredible India website a flop say new IAS officers

DELHI: The Prime Minister’s office (PMO) has written to the Ministry of Tourism to work on improving the Incredible India website and making it more tourist friendly.
The move came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with some newly appointed IAS officers from the 2014 batch on October 2107. The officers started working in various ministries as assistant secretaries in 58 government departments earlier in August this year. They reportedly said that the website was poor in performance and was not aptly promoted on social media  platforms.

The New Indian Express reported that they made eight presentations to Modi on various governance themes like direct benefit transfer (DBT), Swachch Bharat, e-Courts, Tourism, Health and Satellite Applications in Governance.

Those in the Tourism ministry pointed to Incredible India website as being very ineffective and less interactive. They also said that site was poorly socialized on platforms despite the ministry spending a decent amount of money for brand management n social media platforms. For instance, the Incredible India social media page on Facebook has just 36,804 likes.

The tourism ministry received a 70% increase in the Union budget with an allocation of Rs 1,590 crore this year with the goals of developing infrastructure and promoting India as a tourism destinations. Of this amount, Rs 413 crore was allocated for promotion and publicity activities in India and abroad, including market development assistance, claimed officials. Clearly, the lack of money is not a problem for the Ministry.
